We begin our open water trout and salmon season weather permitting in April out of The Town of Newfane Marina and or Wilson Harbor.
The world famous fishery of Lake Ontario is second to none. With an abundance of King Salmon, Coho Salmon, Steelhead, Brown Trout and Lake Trout throughout the lake there are endless possibilities for us to get into drag screaming cold water fish. Atlantic Salmon, though not common, have been coming up more and more further expanding our possible catches.
Starting in the spring we will focus closer to the delta of the mighty Niagara river or more famously called the “Bar”. Fishing is very good all year round at the Bar but in the spring, King Salmon and Lake Trout are stacked in and around the drops due to the baitfish feeding in the nutrient rich water coming from Lake Erie, making for unbelievable days on the lake. 30 plus hookups are not uncommon.
Moving into the summer months, we normally take the month of June off and focus on Lake Erie Walleye. BUT June can be an amazing time if we have an early spring. That being said every year is different. Once the last week of June rolls around though Lake Ontario is setup and the King Salmon are on there summer feeding frenzy gaining over 5 to 8 pounds before the fall spawning run.
August-September are some of the best times to get a fish of a life time as the King Salmon are the biggest they will get before spawning and the Steelhead have had all summer to pack on the pounds after the spring run. September can cause for some hot and cold days when focusing on staging King Salmon but if the weather is good the offshore bite of teen King Salmon and Steelhead are always there if the mature Kings are locked up.
